Each week Healing Thresholds will highlight a story from one of the blogs. These stories are meant as a celebration of the joy that can live side-by-side with a diagnosis of autism.
Thomas tried new things this year that we couldn’t get him to do last year and he wore his blue Speedo goggles faithfully all week.
The summer season has officially begun. I know it’s only April and snow is not completely out of the question yet, but we just got back from my mother-in-law’s cottage yesterday for the first time this season, so here we go. Things have really changed with Thomas since last year. He doesn’t get close to the road anymore or disappear the minute we look away.
He can trace his name all by himself! He actually draws the letters – I saw a sample and she took pictures of him doing it!
Dov attends training for his Bar Mitzvah once a week with his Aunt Sarah. The students practice their prayers, study Judaism and discuss spiritual matters.
I’m actually very surprised at how open Thomas has been lately to trying new foods. Just tonight he ate some asparagus! He even said that he liked it! It really has been great that Thomas eats vegetables lately.
Thomas started with the new class on Monday and he’s doing just fine....Tomorrow he goes on a field trip to the pumpkin patch – his first real field trip!
Thomas has been doing really well in that other classroom with the higher-functioning kids! He enjoys going in there ... his teacher wrote me a note that mentioned how Thomas walked into the other classroom and said, “I’m so happy to be here!”
Something else that is different from last school year is that Thomas has been enjoying gym class!
Thomas’ first two days of school have been great! He’s been telling me so much about what he did during the day.
