I have been told that my daughter has Sensory Integration Dysfunction. Is this an actual medical diagnosis? Also, everywhere I read on Sensory Integration I see the word Autism. Is this a form of Autism?
There are several other books that I would suggest that I found more helpful - easy reading
Unlocking the Mystery of Sensory Integration
Parents Guide to Sensory Integration
I found them easy to read. From my understanding an OT can't diagnosis only a medical doctor. There are many in the medical field that don't think Sensory Processing Disorder exists so keep that in mind.
As I understand it, Sesnory Integration Disorder (SID) can be its own diagnosis or it can be a part of a larger diagnosis, such as autism or anxiety disorder. Have you read The Out-of-Sync Child (http://www.amazon.com/Out-Sync-Child-Recognizing-Integration/dp/0399523863). I liked that book. PWSMom
