My adult son has experienced increasing problems with skin conditions, mainly on hands and feet but now affecting his arms, legs and back. We have seen many dermatologists without much success and accumulating different diagnoses along with many wonderful and expensive creams and lotions which do not have much affect.
I work within the disablity population and have notice many others with similar problems making me wonder if this is not auto immune related. Any comments or feed back regarding incidence, treatment or referrals would be helpful.

Are you giving him omega-3 fatty acids? You might want to consider doing so. That is supposed to help. My son has a tendency towards eczema, but right now it appears to be in check. We give him 1 gram (2 gel caps) of Nordic Naturals ultimate omega per day.

It might be immune-mediated. I learned that my daughter's excema was related to her allergies to air-borne things like dust and grass. Perhaps a visit to an allergist might be helpful and catch something that the dermatologist has missed. And if it were some other possible immune-mediated skin issue, the allergist might know that as well. A rheumatologist deals with other immune-mediated conditions that are not allergies.
My adult son has had excema as a child. As an adult he is in intense pain his skin is covered in sores his limbs are swollen he has night sweats and sheds skin so badly I wash his sheets everyday and vacuum sometimes 3 times daily. We have tried every treatment available the hospital refuses to give him allergy tests. He has had a severe reaction to prednisone which creates a fungal infection. The doctor kicked him out of the hospital cos he refused to take prednisone he has been on it for 20 years on and off. It has made no differance in the last 20 years. There is nothing out there that works.
