Bev Schellenberg of British Columbia contributed a story about her nephew's journey with autism to the recently published anthology, Voices of Autism. "Our Village" is a lot about how she and her family accepted autism - how they learned to communicate with Micah, to hug him, work with his diet, or to play with him. But the story is ultimately about the "village" of speech therapists, special needs daycare providers, and members of the community who help raise Micah. And then, there Micah himself as he deals with his diagnosis with increased social skills, a talent for writing, and an avid video-gamer. There are many such stories in Voices of Autism, and all proceeds go to The Healing Project.
