Former Keys pitcher, Matt Bruback, developed a weighted belt for his own use; a golfer, Catharine Behan of CA, helped him realize a use for children with autism. Weighted vests have typically been used to help some children with sensory integration issues. The weighted belt is lighter and may be more appropriate for children who are too small for a weighted vest. Kelly Beins, a Frederick occupational therapist, sees the benefit of the belt for certain kids, "The fact that it is a belt versus a vest is a big deal. Some kids want no part of anything over top of them."
