Canines as Therapists

Canine Companions for Independence (CCI), headquartered in SantaRosa, CA, provides dogs to children and adults with autism and other disabilities. There are 4 types of assistance dogs that CCI trains for physical, emotional, and physical health: service dogs; hearing dogs; skilled companion dogs; and facility dogs. The dogs are also used by educators, speech, and occupational therapists for use in their work.
