Combining ABA and Montessori to Teach Children with Autism

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) and the Montessori method may be an effective combination for teaching children with autism. Monocacy Montessori Communities Inc. in Frederick, Maryland will offer training in this integrated process in a workshop led by Michelle Lane. The workshop is meant to introduce parents and other caregivers how to use ABA and Montessori to provide at-home activities for their children. Lane, an autism expert, says, "We'll talk about Montessori's four main courses of practical life, math, language and culture. We'll show parents and caregivers how to format activities to fit their individual child." Participants will learn basics of ABA and backward chain modeling (a teaching method).
