The Alabama Autism Task Force and the state Department of Education will use the existing Distance Learning Program to provide training to parents and teachers of students with autism. More and more children with autism and other developmental disabilities are arriving in schools with teachers not equipped to deal with autism. The teachers are often unable to take time to attend off-site training, and there may be a disconnect between the therapy the child receives at home and what he receives at school. Teachers and parents will have access to the same information so that the children will receive consistent intervention.
