Divine Canines, a non-profit pet-therapy program in Texas, brings specially trained dogs to interact with children with autism and other disabilities. Dog owners and their dogs make visits to various hospitals and agencies in the Austin area to promote communication and sensory integration for children and adults. An occupational therapist reports: "the dogs have helped the children learn how to sit still and practice motions that they may have difficulty with, such as smoothly moving their hands to pet a dog from head to tail."
