Educational Developmental and Intervention Services (EDIS) is provided to military families who have children diagnosed with autism. The Army screens for autism when children are 4 months old; if they have developmental issues, the family is put in touch with EDIS who provides home-based speech therapy and OT. Families have discovered that early intervention is crucial in their children's development. Dr. Lukezic, a military pediatrician says, "The key is to start therapy right away....If you give these kids the right therapy they can go off to kindergarten with no problems."
