Early intervention is one of the keys to successful treatment of autism in children, but it's difficult for those in rural areas to gain access to early screening and therapies. Pennsylvania provides a state-funded early intervention program whereby teachers and therapists travel to children's homes. They work with the child and train the family in a home-based environment, using therapies like speech and language, behavior therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy.
