Kids with Autism Pedal Like Their Peers

Lose the Training Wheels Bike Camp, along with Kinetic Kids in San Antonio, TX, are training kids with autism to ride a regular two-wheel bike in a week, one hour a day. The children begin on an adapted bicycle that has a regular front wheel, but has graduated back wheels/rollers. As the child becomes more skilled, the back wheel is swapped out for a thinner and then thinner wheel until finally the child is riding a regular bicycle. This form of physical therapy allows children to enjoy the same physical activities as their peers. Dr. Richard Klein developed and hand-crafted 48 of these bikes and provided them to camps like Lose the Training Wheels Bike Camp.
