Friday, November 6, 2009 - 13:26

Children with autism and other disabilities may be underserved in some rural areas of Arizona. To reach these children and their families, the Chiricahua Community Health Centers, Inc. (CCHCI) partnered with Children's Health Fund (CHF) to create the Southern Arizona Children's Health Project (SACHP). SACHP will provide clinics as well as mobile health units to reach families who have little money and no transportation. In addition, there will be a state-of-the art Pediatric Therapy Playroom. This means that play therapy can be provided to local children in an environment filled with therapy equipment that will help with autism intervention. Parents are able to work directly with their children and the therapists. Medical Director of SACHP, Jonathan Lee-Melk, MD, states, "I believe that all children have a right to health care - period. That's something I'm not able to compromise and am willing to speak out for."
