Cleveland area schools have risen to the increased challenge of of serving children with autism. There have been expansions at existing treatment centers and specialty schools have been created. The State of Ohio funds an "autism scholarship", offering parents up to $20,000 for services outside of the public school system.
Therapies that parents are seeking for their children include: intensive one-on-one therapy with rewards to encourage behavior, floortime, and a computer-based speech and language system (in cooperation with Harvard Medical School) that uses customized images for each child.
