Riding Emphasizing Individual Needs and Strengths (REINS), in CA, provides equine therapy for children with autism and other disabilities. Therapeutic horseback riding teaches children responsibility for caring for the horses. In addition, equine therapy increases balance and self-esteem. Debbie Shinner, the director of REINS, explains, "The horse is our tool, and the riding arena is our therapy room."
