Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy breaks tasks down into small pieces, so that children with autism can accomplish things that other children find intuitive.

You can find local ABA programs and therapists through the ABA portal at ABA International: http://www.abainternational.org/chapters.asp

It is also possible to receive ABA training virtually through many universities: http://programs.gradschools.com/distance/special_education.html

The Behavior Analyst Certification Board was established to provide consistent credentialing for behavior analysts; search in their "Certificant Registry" to find a local behavior analyst (www.bacb.com).

*******

Maximum Potential Group was created a little over a year ago to be the solution for those families who can not afford ABA therapy or for those who do not live near an ABA therapist.
They have teamed up with two PhD BCBA's to create an easy to understand but in depth course that provides not only parents, but also school systems with the opportunity to learn ABA principles. The program contains 17 modules on 8 DVDs that teach an instructor all the skills necessary to provide ABA, as well as dozens of video clips of actual ABA sessions. The learned skills allow an individual to implement a state of the art ABA program or just use certain skills to help reduce or increase behaviors. Many times reducing behavior or understanding a child better can make an enormous difference in a family’s life.
Based on average ABA costs, the course for parents is less expensive than 6 hours of therapy provided by a BCBA.

Recently the Autism Society of America wrote a short article about this program: http://www.autism-society.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=12345&news_iv_ctrl=1882

The web site is www.maximumpotentialkids.com

****

www.autismspotlight.com is an ABA social networking community founded by parents of a child with autism: "The hardest thing for my wife and me was continuing and re-enforcing the learning structure that Drew was receiving during the day.
Putting technology to the test, I had my team of web developers create AutismSpotlight.com to help provide a cost effective solution for all of us as parents, the ability to interact with our therapists after hours, receive updates and news, along with the ability to watch training videos which help us continue to work with our children at home, keeping consistent with their therapy.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to visit AutismSpotlight.com and consider all of the possibilities an online social networking community can provide you with.
