Layperson Summary:

Parents are more likely to choose applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy if it is described to them in a way that makes sense to them.

This review article describes how best to tell people about ABA therapy as a good treatment option for autism. The authors believe that the first step in the communication plan should be to tell people about the symptoms of autism. The next step is to explain ABA therapy. Taken together, these two pieces of information will help parents to know that they can do something about their child's problem. These two pieces of information can be communicated even though the research on autism and autism interventions is not yet complete.
