Layperson Summary:

Doctors should try to find out if there is a cause for symptoms of pervasive developmental disorder (PDD).

This article is a case study of a 9-year-old girl with PDD and fragile X syndrome. The authors point out that girls who have borderline to normal IQ and autism spectrum symptoms should be given the genetic test for fragile X syndrome. The therapy plan for the girl addressed problems found with fragile X syndrome. The girl was treated for two main symptoms of fragile X syndrome: anxiety and hyperarousal. The family was also given genetic advice.
