ABA therapy may be able to improve problem behaviors that happen in response to noise.
As many as 40% of children with autism do not like noise and respond to noise with problem behavior. Despite this fact, few studies have looked at treating the response to noise as a way of treating problem behaviors in people with autism. This case study described a child with autism who had a bad response to music and was treated with applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy. The authors noted that it was very hard to find the real cause (establishing operation) of the problem behavior. The authors describe other therapy approaches that might have worked such as teaching the child to walk away from the music.
