This review article describes Asperger Syndrome (AS), explains when it starts, and what therapies can be used to treat it.
Most treatments for Asperger Syndrome (AS) focus on teaching social and language skills. Some children with AS have strong language skills; therapy uses these skills to teach rules for behavior. Drugs do not treat the core symptoms of autism or AS, although they may help other symptoms or behaviors of the child. If a child has many symptoms, the authors suggest that these symptoms be treated with the fewest number of drugs possible. Children with AS tend to do better after treatment than children with autism.
