Layperson Summary:

Drug therapy can help people with Asperger Syndrome, but the therapy should be watched closely to make sure that there are no side effects.

This review article describes drug therapy for people with Asperger Syndrome. People with Asperger Syndrome may be given drug therapy to help with bad behavior and any neuropsychiatric problems (anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, etc.). Some studies have shown that Asperger Syndrome is caused by a problem in the brain. Therefore, some of the other problems that people with Asperger Syndrome have might also be the result of a basic problem in the brain. It is important to find and treat these basic problems in the brain as early as possible.
