Article summary (posted Apr 2, 2008):

Cognitive Orientation for daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) may help children with Asperger's Syndrome learn to generalize skills learned in therapy to help solve every day problems.

This study was designed to see if CO-OP intervention would help children with Asperger's Syndrome learn to solve every day problems. CO-OP therapy involves having each child think about ways that the skills that they learned in therapy could help them solve daily problems. The study used the mother's diary as a record that the two children in the study had learned new skills. The CO-OP approach helped the two children to generalize their skills to daily routines. The authors suggest that CO-OP therapy may help children with Asperger's Syndrome with some of the learning problems that are common with Asperger's Syndrome.
