Layperson Summary:

In the future, people with autism may have robots that help them to learn and respond to social cues.

The authors propose the idea that robots could be used to provide therapy and mentor people with autism. They describe the mentors as having the same role that Jiminy Cricket has in the Pinocchio tale. They believe that the behaviors of a person with autism are not completely different from other people, but rather more extreme than other people. Therefore, they believe that people with autism can be mainstreamed if they are given lifelong help by a Jiminy Cricket robot. They propose that it may be easy to develop such a robot because people with autism tend to have fairly simple actions that they often repeat.
