Research: Does the Autistic Child have a Metarepresentational Deficit?

Authored by Leekam, SR, and Perner J. in Cognition, Volume 40, Issue 3, p. 203-218, (1991).

Article summary (posted Oct 21, 2006):

This research report suggests that children with autism may have difficulty with “theory of mind” (understanding the internal thoughts and ideas of others). Specifically, they noted that while children with autism were able to understand how events change over time, they were unable to understand how other people may have different experiences from their own.
