Layperson Summary:

Many research studies support the use of applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy as a treatment for autism.

This review article was written to see which autism spectrum disorder (ASD) , therapies have the most research support. The authors point out that there are very few large, randomized, controlled therapy studies in the field of autism. There are also very few studies that compare one type of therapy to another. The research suggests, though, that core symptoms of autism can improve with therapy. The authors state that a good therapy program should include and support the family of the child with autism.
