Layperson Summary:

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy may be helpful in treating children with autism who are sleepy during the day.

Sleep problems are very common in children with autism. This case study describes a 13-year-old boy with autism who received ABA therapy to help with daytime sleepiness. The therapy involved stopping signals that triggered sleep in the boy. The authors confirmed that the classroom teachers did a good job with the ABA therapy. The authors conclude that the ABA approach to treat nighttime sleep problems can also be used to treat daytime sleep problems.
