The special interests of children with Asperger Syndrome should be taken seriously and used to help engage a student in classroom activities.
To know and care for a child with Asperger Syndrome is to know his special interest area. The purpose of this study was to find out why children and youth with Asperger Syndrome have special interest areas and how best to use those special interests. The study included 23 children ages 7 to 21. There were only 2 girls in the study and the children were either European American or Native American. All children were interviewed once for 20-25 minutes.
