The Group Intensive Family Training (GIFT) Program may be a low-cost option for families to help meet the therapy needs of their child with autism.
This study was designed to see if the 16-week behavior analytic parent-training therapy program known as GIFT can help children with autism. The children left the program with higher IQ scores and higher scores in their ability to adapt and function. The authors believe that the children in the study gained important learning skills from the GIFT program. The study did not look to see to what extent parent use of the therapy at home influenced the child's gains. The GIFT program is low-cost and does not require as much time as regular applied behavior analysis (ABA).
