Adults with autism tend to have a great deal of anxiety and any therapy should take into consideration this anxiety.
This study was designed to see what causes stress and anxiety in adults with autism. The study found that adults with autism do have more anxiety than other adults. The most common types of anxiety were: panic, separation anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. The authors were not sure if the separation anxiety came from attachment to a person or fear of change. The authors were not sure if the levels of anxiety were high enough to reach a clinical diagnosis of anxiety.
