Article summary (posted Oct 30, 2008):

Early diagnosis and early intervention of autism can lead to improved outcomes.

This review article describes recent research in the field of autism. Autism can present in many different ways in different children. The authors state that intervention for a child with autism must be tailored to that child. They suggest that children be screened for any genetic syndromes that might call for certain treatments. Many children with autism also have sleep problems and/or seizures. Behavior problems are also common in children with autism.
