Risperidone in the Management of Disruptive Behavior Disorders

Risperidone may be effective in improving angry, aggressive, and self-injurious behavior in children with pervasive developmental disorders (PDD).

Risperidone is classified as an atypical antipsychotic and it has been studied a great deal in children with disruptive behavior disorders (DBD). It is diagnosed in children and adolescents with and without autism. DBDs include conduct disorder and oppositional-defiant disorder. DBDs can be quite difficult personally, economically, and socially; parents frequently search for treatment options. This article reviewed the many studies of the use of risperidone in children with DBD.
