Authored by Seida, JK, Ospina MB, Karkhaneh M., Hartling L., Smith V., and Clark B. in Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology, Volume 51, Issue 2, p. 95-104, (2009).

Article summary (posted Jun 10, 2009):

Therapies and interventions that focus on behaviors, or communication and social skills may be helpful to children with autism.

This report talks about different articles that each look at a type of autism therapy. The authors of this report looked at 9 review articles of behavioral therapies, and 7 review articles of communication-focused therapies. Many of the articles reported improvements in children's behavior and communication, but the authors said that many of the studies used poor scientific methods and were incomplete. They said studies should be done more carefully to help figure out exactly which therapies are helpful.
