Layperson Summary:

Visual schedules and other treatments can help children with autism learn to work by themselves.

This study was designed to find the best way to get children with autism to work on-task without the help of adults. The authors noted, however, that throughout the study there were adults in the room watching the children work. The authors found several ways to help children with autism work on-task and on-schedule. For example, each time the children were taught using a visual schedule they became better at working on-task and on-schedule. The study included three children, and found that each child required differing amounts of time in order to be able to work without the help of a teacher.
