This article describes a well-controlled research study showing that some children with autism do not benefit from a casein- and gluten-free diet within a 6-week period.
The purpose of this study was to test whether a casein- and gluten-free diet can help improve the behavior of children with autism. The study focused on 13 children with autism (2-16 years old). Children were placed on gluten- and casein-free diets for six weeks and on their regular diets (including gluten and casein) for six weeks. There were no significant changes in behavior during this time. The authors conclude that future studies should extend the diet treatment time.
