Layperson Summary:

Children with autism may be able to learn social skills better when taught using special therapy movies.

This study was designed to see if movies could be used to teach social skills to children with autism. The study included four children who were able to learn to perform a series of social behaviors. Two of the children were able to learn from just the movie and two needed extra practice. The children were able to do the social behavior in different places, thus showing that they had "generalized" the behavior. The authors noted that the children seemed more likely to copy the behavior in the movie than they were to copy behavior in real people.
