Minnesota Legislators Propose Insurance Coverage of Intensive Behavior Therapy, Summarized Apr 17, 2013

Minnesota is joining the growing list of states that are requiring insurance companies to cover autism therapies. The legislature originally asked for no dollar or age limit on the autism coverage, but due to budget cuts, the coverage is limited to $50,000 per year, per child. Applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy, as intensive behavior therapy may be called, is often not covered by insurance in the same way that speech and physical therapies are.

Colorado Springs is Home to PlayDate Behavioral Interventions, Summarized Apr 15, 2013

Melissa Richardson, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), founded the West Texas Autism Center in Abilene. Having worked in the autism and special education field for over 35 years, she’s a strong believer in early intervention. The center focuses on applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy for the clients, who range in age from 2 to 27. Richardson explained, “The earlier we get in there and teach them those skills, the more they're going to progress and be able to apply what they know.”

Camp in Florida Begins Taking Applications for Kids with Autism, Summarized Apr 3, 2013

We don’t ever feel it’s too early to think about camping, neither does Autism Pensacola. Kids for Camp 2013 recently began taking applications for summer camp. Weekly camp is provided for kids and teens with autism and run from July to August. The camp provides ABA and verbal behavior therapies. The camp has partnered with a national inclusion project called Let’s All Play.
