definition of Buspar (buspirone hydrochloride): Buspar® is indicated for the management of anxiety disorders or for short-term relief of more severe symptoms of anxiety. Buspirone may be prescribed off-label for people with autism to help reduce anxiety and aggression and to help improve behaviors. Buspirone has helped improve behaviors in some people with autism. This medication is currently being tested in children and adults with autism.

Buspirone may help with the aggressive behavior of some people with autism.

Some people with autism have problem behaviors that include temper tantrums, aggression, and hurting themselves. There are many different drugs that are used to help with these behaviors. This case report describes the use of the drug buspirone to treat a 33-year-old woman with autism and aggressive behavior. She did not have any major side effects with the buspirone and it helped with the aggression towards herself and others.
