BodyBenders, a physical therapy clinic in MD, started by Katie Glaser-LeClere, has expanded services to include motor planning and bladder/bowel treatment. The climbing wall helps children with autism anticipate how they will move their bodies. In addition, Glaser-LeClere works with children to strengthen pelvic floor muscles to address bladder and bowel issues.

Responding to interactive metronome
Feb 9, 2011 by AnonymousAs a certified Interactive Metronome Provider, I have experienced many positive results working with clients with Autism, ADD, ADHD, TBI, Asperger's Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue and seniors with balance/gait difficulty. There IS significant research on Interactive Metronome if one looks at the proper resources. Increased focus/attention, better coordination, improved motor planning, improved self-confidence, better eye contact, less impulsiveness, less anxiety, better grades in school are only a few of the gains that clients I have worked with have gained as a result of IM.
I have worked with close to 80 clients and have only had one client ( a 50 year old male ) with ADD who felt that IM did not help them in some way.
Music therapy
Feb 24, 2007 by AnonymousMusic therapy addresses non-musical goals. It can be esp. effective for children with autism. Therapy addresses specific areas of the child. Many children who are non-verbal can sing entire songs. Musical instruments are used for motor planning exercises. There are often no delays in musical perception in children with autism. Musical therapy provides a venue where children with autism can often feel a great deal of success. Music therapy works with the child to further develop that feeling of success.
For an example of a musical therapy program see: http://www.creativeexchangemusic.com.
In Atlanta or Florida, look at: http://www.workingthepuzzle.com/
They currently offer Music Therapy (MTx) in individual and group settings, designed to utilize the effectiveness of intervention through Music.
