Susan Nachimson is a speech therapist in California who uses aquatic therapy to increase speech and communication skills in children with autism and other developmental delays. Her practice, AquaSLP.com, focuses on warm pool water's buoyancy to increase movement of the entire body including the vocal areas. "The water also serves to support the head for better positioning to provide trunk, neck, jaw, tongue support for more intelligible articulation." One of the specific interventions Nachimson uses is called WATSU or water shiatsu, which is a hands-on massage technique.
