Between 50 and 80% of people with autism have some difficulties sleeping. Sleep problems can include: refusing to go to bed, getting out of bed, tantrums at bedtime and early night arousal. Treatments include: establishing a bedtime routine, ignoring the child until he falls asleep (cold turkey), gradually ignoring the child until he falls asleep (Ferberizing), gradually moving parent away from child's bed, and pharmacological sleep aids.
